THE GREEN DRAGONBywater
What has to be the most famous of all Inns in the Shire, The Green Dragon was built in the town of Bywater and is touted as the meeting place for the hobbits of Bywater and nearby Hobbiton. The food and beer is said to be legendary and is the Inn of choice for dwarves who visit the Shire. Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee (Sam), Peregrin Took (Pippin), and Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry) were known to frequent The Green Dragon. It is even fabled that Merry and Pippin sang the song of The Green Dragon while dancing on a table in Edoras in Rohan. The lyrics of the song are as follows: "Oh you can search far and wide, You can drink the whole town dry, But you'll never find a beer so brown, Oh you'll never find a beer so brown, As the one we drink in our hometown, As the one we drink in our hometown. You can drink your fancy ales, You can drink them by the flagon, But the only brew for the brave and true... ..Comes from the Green Dragon!!" |
THE IVY BUSH INNHobbiton
Constructed at intersection of Bywater Road and Hill Road in the town of Hobbiton, the Ivy Bush Inn was said to be the favorite of Samwise Gamgee's (Sam) father, Hamfast Gamgee, out of all the Inns in the Shire. Sporting both a house ale, Thistlebelly Brew, and a house wine, Whitebranch, and being centrally located in Hobbiton, the Ivy Bush tends to be the gossip and story telling hub of the Shire. At almost any time of day you will find musicians singing songs of their adventures on the stage or hear stories being told in front of the fireplace. While the nearby Green Dragon does tend to draw more people, if stories of adventure or terrifying tales are your preference, the Ivy Bush Inn is the place to find them! |
